About Us

About Stout Coffee and Tea

The owner, Dave Stout, as a young man was a US Army Infantryman and remembers one of the greatest parts of his day was drinking a hot cup of coffee in the early morning hours, when the weather was very cold, this is where his passion began to grow. After the Army, Dave went to college and afterwards traveled around the world to 125 counties. This was possible through his work with the US Government. One part of his travels he particularly loved was getting the opportunity to taste the coffees and teas from different cultures. With each new and exciting cup the passion grew; even after living out of a suitcase for a decade and a half, Dave could always feel at home no matter where he was when he started his day with a hot cup of coffee or tea. After retiring from the travel life, Dave moved to South Carolina and opened up a construction company, but Dave's passion for coffee and tea was still brewing, so in 2023 Stout Coffee and Tea was born.

Stout Coffee and Tea obtains our coffees and teas from the finest roasters and distributors carrying flavors from all over the world for resale. With careful consideration, hours of research and taste testing, we are proud to bring you flavors that will take you on a tour of the World. We appreciate each client, take pride in providing biodegradable coffee pods, and look forward to providing you with great tasting coffee and tea from around the world.

Our Story

Our mission is to supply superb specialty teas and herbal blends.

OUR STORY began in the 1980’s, when Donna McCafferty was an art student at Kutztown University. The Tea Can Company concept came from a class project on branding.

Looking for a unique promotional product, Donna’s graphic design company presented the first Tea Package to her own clients as a holiday gift. They loved the idea, the quality of tea, and most of all, the lasting effect of the intended message. One by one, the clients and various businesses started ordering custom cans for their companies, weddings, and events. That’s when we decided to become tea experts and packaging gurus.

Since 2011

In 2011, The Tea Can Company was founded, selling high quality teas in large tea tins, mini tins, kraft bags, and organza bags at various price points to fit any budget. Today, our products are designed and packaged for unique, personal and corporate gifts, souvenirs and bridal favors.

The Tea Can Company sells teas in universities and college bookstores across the country under the Universitea® label. We also have a fundraising program that allows non-profits to sell The Tea Can Company products as a way to help raise funds for schools, churches, breast cancer organizations, The Lupus Foundation®, and others.

Here we are today with a company that we truly believe in!

Our Story

We started GreenPod® as a solution to a problem we discovered as a small batch, craft coffee roaster. Customers wanted the convenience of single serve in their Keurig® style brewers, but we did not want to contribute to the single-use plastics problem, never mind the fact that plastic pod coffee was less than perfect. So we began searching for a good solution. We explored reusable cups, but this defeated the point for many customers that needed single serve for convenience. Filling these cups and cleaning them was not convenient. They were also tricky to get “just right” for great extraction and taste. There were also cups advertised as recyclable, but they required removing some pieces and cleaning out the inside, etc.

When we failed to find a good solution already on the market, we decided to create one! And we wanted to bring this solution to other small roasters having the same issue. Thus GreenPod Coffee Packing was born. The first such technology in the U.S. that brings accessibility to small roasters. A completely compostable coffee pod made with ZERO plastics, packed for perfect extraction and freshness.  You’ve never tasted a single serve pod that gets everything right! But as coffee roasters ourselves, we know what it takes to make a good cup, and we will sell nothing less! Now you can bring convenience to your customers without sacrificing taste or the environment!  Send us a message and let’s schedule a call to learn more about the first pod worthy of specialty coffee!

About Us

Our Story

Our roots as a coffee roasting company date back to 1909 when our great grandfather Leonardo Alarcon first started collecting and sorting coffee beans for a local coffee exporter in southwest Venezuela.

Like the Orinoco River that flows through our homeland, our family has traveled many miles west, then north and finally east, settling near the seaboard of the Atlantic Ocean.

Today, Orinoco’s heritage includes four generations of growers, exporters, importers, and roasters. Jessup, Maryland is our coffee roasting company’s home, but our goal remains: to consistently provide excellent coffee and tea products to retailers, local coffee shops, and multi-store grocery chains across the United States.
